The World Cup mascots are, without a doubt, among the most entertaining features of the competition. The 1966 England World Cup marked the beginning of the mascot craze. FIFA now describes these mascots as existing in a parallel universe to humans called the “mascot-verse.” Willie, the 1966 World Cup lion, was the first to open the exhibition.

Popular mascots regarded as works of art include Zakumi, a leopard from South Africa; Fuleco, an armadillo from Brazil; and Zabibvaka, a wolf from Russia. However, the mascot for the 2022 World Cup is called “La’eeb” and is not an animal.

The meaning of La’eeb

During this year’s group stage draw, Moroccan producer RedOne revealed the 2022 world cup mascot in an intriguing video. La’eeb appears to be a flying ghost, a jinn hanging from a tree, or a piece of tissue. La’eeb, on the other hand, dons a gutra, a typical headpiece for men in Qatari and Arab cultures.
